Home Improvement Loan Program (HILP):
Guide to HILP Loans

  1. First, decide what improvements you want to make to your home.
  2. Contact contractors to discuss the work that you want to have done and obtain written proposals from the contractors listing the work with itemized costs. Note that contractors will be required to obtain building permits.
  3. Complete the HILP Loan Application (download from HILP page) and submit it to one of the participating HILP lending partners. You will need to provide verification of income (two most recent pay stubs) and a signed copy of your most recent tax return.
  4. Upon approval, you will close the loan with the lender and the funds wil be disbursed directly to you. You will pay the contractor.
  5. Approximately 6 months after loan closing, the URA will contact you to schedule an inspection of the home to see that the funds were used for the home repairs.
  6. Your first montly payment will be due 45 days after loan closing.
