The URA manages design and construction contracts for infrastructure projects, parking garages, buildings, and demolition within the public bidding laws. Our Engineering and Construction Department has expertise in managing brownfield sites, including Nine Mile Run (now Summerset at Frick Park), the Pittsburgh Technology Center, South Side Works, and Washington's Landing, with respect to the environmental issues and Act 2 clearance.
In 2003 the Engineering and Construction Department's Public Improvement/Demolition Program exceeded $54,000,000.
See Showcase Projects for information about major projects completed by the URA.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to minorities and women and equal opportunities for business growth and development to minority and women entrepreneurs. It is the Authority's objective to increase minority and women's participation in its contract with the goal being that twenty five percent (25%) of the contract amount is expended for minority participation and ten percent (10%) of the contract amount is expended for women's participation.
See the URA's formal policy statement on M/WBE participation.
The URA accepts M/WBE certification from various government agencies. Search for potential M/WBE certified contractors and obtain certification documents at www.county.allegheny.pa.us/mwdbe
