The URA’s Economic Development Department manages the overall planning, financing and implementation of commercial, mixed-use, public infrastructure and transportation projects. This department collaborates with developers on proposals and financing alternatives as well as coordinates multi-year “Major Project” implementation activities. The Economic Development Department also generates recommendations on development policies, programs and projects in the City of Pittsburgh.
Our staff helps structure gap financing, secures and administers a variety of federal and state grants, negotiates appropriate local tax diversion tools and provides technical assistance. The department is largely comprised of “Project Managers” who coordinate various redevelopment activities with developers, community development corporations, community organizations and residents to benefit Pittsburgh neighborhoods.
The Economic Development Department also administers two URA entities:
- URA’s New Markets Tax Credit Community Development Entity (“CDE”) called Pittsburgh Urban Initiatives (“PUI”)
- East Liberty Transit Revitalization Investment District Revitalization Authority (“ELTRIDRA”)
