Over the River and Through the Works...

November 2017 Newsletter

...SouthSide Works, that is!

On October 16, the URA, in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh, Soffer Organization and Riverlife, held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new gateway and improvements made to South Shore Riverfront Park's entrance. The event was followed by a tour.

South Shore Riverfront Park serves as an important connection for the Great Allegheny Passage and Three Rivers Heritage Trail. The park includes riverfront trails, a piazza, concert stage, overlook, river landing, and boat dock. Seven historic cast-iron columns, donated by Rivers of Steel Heritage Corporation, were installed in the expanded plaza. Read more about the improvements here.

Thanks to County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Erin Molchany (Governor's Office), Henry Horn-Pyatt (Mayor's Office), Steven Kasunich (COO, Soffer Organization), Vivien Li (president and CEO, Riverlife), Paul D'Alessandro (Congressman Doyle's Office), and Teri Cataldo Fazio (Senator Costa's Office) for being a part of the celebration.

Thanks also to Tom Williams and Hofbrauhaus for the bottled water and yummy warm pretzels; RML Jazz for setting the mood; Riverlife's Stephan Bontrager and Soffer's Steve Kasunich and Stephanie Field for their invaluable behind-the-scenes help; Scott Bofinger and Jonathan Glance, our tour guides from LGA Partners; and the URA team: Paul Allessio, Dana Bohince, Nathan Clark, Byron Crawford, Julie Edwards, Susheela Nemani-Stanger, and Gigi Saladna who helped put the event together.
