What have you learned from your experience in the Catapult: Startup to Storefront Hill District cohort?

No matter where you are in business, there is always room to learn and grow, make connections, stay consistent, and know your stuff. This opportunity has connected me to several people, places and things that a small business needs to grow and flourish. No dream is too big or too small - just keep pushing. It also touches on key points of how to effectively set up and run a business. This information was gold! I can go on and on about my experience. My business coach was extremely knowledgeable and helpful as well.

What is your favorite part of running your business?

Connecting and building relationships with my customers, and creating custom scents. And the fact that my customers keep me going even when I want to give up. I'll get that random order, like, 'Hey girl, I need...,' or when someone is at a vending event or bumps into me in public and says, 'Ohhhh you're Northern Scents,' it makes me feel like all my hard work isn't going unnoticed and folks really like my products. I really appreciate that.

Please tell us which product of yours is a customer favorite!

Northern Scents will scent anything!! So it depends on the customer. Candles are the biggest seller of course, but we offer an array of scented products. Customers love the custom scented candles the most. It's something you can't get from any other candle company.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs pursuing a business?

Keep pushing, stay consistent, always have a plan B (there's 26 letters in the alphabet), and plan accordingly. Treat your customers and network the way you'd want to be treated; accountability is big! Also, if you have questions, ask, never just assume something in business because it can really set your business back, and get connected with the Catapult program. I'm glad I did.
