Get to Know: David Geiger
Job title: Government Affairs Officer
What you actually do: Coordinate, strategize, and manage the URA’s governmental and legislative affairs; Perform other duties as required and assigned.
Years at URA: Almost 1
Best thing about working at the URA: The incredible staff- being part of team who try their hardest every day to make Pittsburgh a more equitable city through our work.
Favorite project/Most satisfying moment in career: Hard to pick just one; Anytime I get to help my coworkers solve a problem or advance a project is rewarding.
Education: Proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh; I majored in Political Science, and Communication & Rhetoric, with a minor in History. Hail to Pitt!
Where you were before the URA: Various political campaign staff roles; Legislative Assistant for a State Senator; and most recently, a Budget Analyst for the House Appropriations Committee
If you were boss for the day: I'd ask my employees this same question and implement as many good ideas as possible; Also, jeans five days a week.
The Boss says: "David has been an amazing hire for the URA. He's a whip-smart strategic thinker with the uncanny ability to synthesize very complex information in a way that makes it accessible to everyone. I'm glad he's willing to lend his gifts and talents to the public sector." -Diamonte Walker, URA deputy director and interim executive director
If you weren't at the URA you'd be...trying to do similar work in Pittsburgh, maybe another city.
First job: Mowing lawns for cash, but Wegmans provided me with my first paycheck— I cashiered, pushed carts, and stocked produce.
Favorite Pittsburgh spot: No one told me the test would be this difficult.
Favorite restaurant: I love Aiello’s, but I don’t pick favorites.
What you like to do when not at work: Spending time with family and friends! Hopefully this involves food, drinks, sports, music, games, and lively conversation. Me-time is spent in the gym or training for a race by running around the city.
Secret vice: People know that I drink coffee, but do they know just how much?
What three words describe you best: Sociable, Attentive, Caring
What you’re currently watching on Netflix: Frasier— he’s a millennial hero; lives in a hip city, under the same roof as a parent, and podcasts for a living.
What song do you have on infinite repeat? I am more of a listen-to the-whole-album kind of guy. And I listen to all genres— just ask to see my recently-played on Spotify.
Three things always in your refrigerator: Almost always stocked with kale, kiwis, and eggs
Three people (living or dead) you’d like to have dinner with: My Grandfather (who passed away shortly after I was born), Malcolm X, Robert Pirsig
Actor who would play you in a movie: Clearly John Cena, right?
People would be surprised to know that I...am a triplet.
